Maria Bernadette Zwischenberger
Maria Bernadette Zwischenberger joined the Centre for Translation Studies’ research staff in October 2020. She holds a degree in Translation from the University of Vienna where she trained as a spoken language interpreter (GER – EN – FR) and completed post-graduate certification for intralingual speech-to-text interpreting. Her research spans across four areas in Translation and Interpreting Studies to include:
♦ Interpreting in social movements
♦ Feminist approaches in Interpreting Studies
♦ Speech-to-text interpreting and linguistic accessibility for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing users
♦ Interpreting education and training
Further, Maria was a member of the EU-funded project ReTrans which developed digitized training materials with the aim to support self-directed instruction for interpreters working in reception zones and along transborder migration routes. Currently, Maria works in the EU-funded project team WEBPSI which seeks to heighten interpreting capacity in languages of limited/lesser diffusion through transnational academic and stakeholder collaboration. As part of the project, an EU-wide web portal for video-mediated interpreting and a repository for train-the-trainer materials is made available.
